Bonjour mes amis! Throughout first term, students at all grade levels showed enthusiasm and genuine interest in developing their French language skills with improvement in oral communication, reading and writing strands of the curriculum. I continue to be impressed with the positive energy of our BPGF family!
Mrs. Blandizzi and Ms. D’Alessandro’s grade classes have shown notable development from their introduction to greetings, expressions of courtesy, colours, numbers and body parts to themes of weather, seasons, calendar and clothing. Please invite them to teach you a prayer or one of our many songs and chants. Their smiles are contagious and their motivation invigorating! C’est fantastique!
Mrs. Philips and Ms. Feeney’s participated in a pilot of a new, innovative French program with a focus on media literacy and functional, spontaneous oral French. They developed their conversational skills while excitedly solving mysteries with the student detectives of Club Mystère. Bravo, mes amis! Most recently both classes created a variation of the story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” with their own creative twists. All students will have a chance to read you their collaborative book as a home-school connection. Moreover, Ms. Feeney’s class was featured in a magazine Education Today as we celebrated our uniqueness through empathy building activities in French. In term 2 we will explore the themes of families, animals and food.
Our junior students recently showcased their learning through a Home Show in which they played the role of real estate agents selling accessible homes. Wow! With a focus on 21st century learning competencies, they showed innovation and critical thinking in their 3D and digital presentations. Check out www.mmeshipton.weebly.com homepage for pics!
Attention Magasineurs! Attention Shoppers! This term, our intermediate students mastered vocabulary related to shopping. They focused on communicating their wants and needs, reading and creating sale ads as well as identifying and expressing prices in French. Their phone dialogues and store flyers with accompanying store special offers announcements were well-expressed and received. Next term, we will work on communication in the past and future while exploring a graphic novel about space adventurers.
Thank you again for your support. As always, I will work hard to ensure our BPGF students are engaged and motivated by presenting curriculum in ways that interest them and best suit their needs. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

This term, students at all grade levels showed enthusiasm and interest in improving their French language skills with development in oral communication, reading and writing strands of the curriculum.
Mrs. Blandizzi and Ms. D’Alessandro’s grade classes have shown tremendous growth in their introduction to greetings, expressions of courtesy, colours, numbers and body parts. Bravo, mes amis! Upcoming themes will include the weather, seasons and shapes.
Mrs. Philips and Ms. Feeney’s classes introduced themselves by creating and sharing ipad-art on which their apps represented their personal preferences and their ipad covers shared adjectives about themselves. They will soon participate in a pilot of a new, innovative French program with a focus on media literacy and functional, spontaneous oral French. They will develop their conversational skills while excitedly solving mysteries with the student detectives of Club Mystère. Please make sure to ask them about our soon-to-be class mascot Hugo!
Our junior students are working on vocabulary-building strategies as they also begin new unit: Une maison pas comme les autres! In this unit, students will learn new vocabulary and language functions while following a family of extra-terrestrials moving to Earth and building their first home. The final task will be to design a home, using technology and multiple materials. Stay tuned!
Attention Magasineurs! Attention Shoppers! This term, our intermediate students will master vocabulary related to shopping. With a focus on communicating their wants and needs, reading and creating sale ads as well as identifying and expressing prices, they should be ready for a buying experience in any francophone environment--Be forewarned! They will design and present store flyers as well as participate in a range of customer-salesclerk role play situations. To date, they have shown excellent understanding of grade level vocabulary and language structures and I continue to be impressed with their positive attitudes towards French as a Second Language learning. C’est magnifique!
Thank you again for your support. As always, I will work hard to ensure our BPGF students are engaged and motivated by presenting curriculum in ways that interest them and best suit their needs, incorporating music, drama, visual arts, physical activity and other subject areas as appropriate.
